Seed Swap, Saturday, February 4, 2012
Join CCF for our first ever seed swap. Everyone is welcome. Bring your extra seeds saved from previous season and any seeds you won’t be using this year to trade with others. Don’t have any seeds? Don’t worry. The farm has some that we’d love to give you. (More details to come.)
Starting Seeds, Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012
Did you get some seeds at the seed swap? Or maybe you order a bunch from a catalog, but you don’t know whether you should start them in the house or wait for the spring to plant them outside. Come to our seedling workshop and we’ll discuss different techniques that have worked for gardener’s here at the farm. By the end of the workshop you’ll be ready to start those seeds in time for spring. (More details to come.)
Backyard Chickens, March 10, 2012
This class covers the basics of keeping a small flock of laying hens in your backyard. Topics include nutrition, housing, regulations, health and behavior. We will also discuss the various breeds of poultry available and observe some of them here at the farm. You will leave the class with a good sense of what is involved in successfully raising layer chickens. Cost is $25 per participant.
Children’s Learn to Weave a Scarf Class, Starting Wednesday, March 21, 2012
Beth Guertin from A Place to Weave in Waltham, will be teaching a four week workshop at the farm for children age 8 and older. Participants will design a stripe scarf in cotton yarn (8” X 60”) on a Cricket Rigid Heddle Loom. They will warp the loom for the scarf ; weave the scarf and twist fringe. Looms can be taken home to weave on the project during the week. In addition to weaving, children will also have an opportunity to visit with CCF’s sheep, learn from the farmer about the care and maintenance of these animals and gain an understanding of how yarn is made. Cost per child is $80 including yarn. Class is limited to 8 participants.
Farm Work Day, April 7, 2012
We will getting the farm ready for the upcoming spring season. There is a project for everyone. We need to get the CCF gardens ready for planting, sweep out the attic, wash the big store sign, organize the gardening tools, spread wood chips and much more. Bring your lunch and spend the day with us on the farm.
