Community Gardens

Gardeners from across the Boston area have been caring for Community Garden plots at the corner of Lincoln and Codman Roads since 1973, with some plots tended by the same hands for 40 years. Today more than 140 garden plots are available for public use, and at the height of the season this rich patchwork of organically-grown flowers, fruits and vegetables is one of the most beautiful places on the farm. Codman Farm mows the paths, helps with plowing, and provides water and compost, but gardeners are by and large their own little kingdom, forming a governing committee that helps to both manage and care for this integral part of our community farm.

Picking within the boundaries of the Community Gardens is strictly prohibited. If you would like to pick your own flowers, visit our PYO garden.

Interested in becoming a new gardener?

Every new gardener starts out with a 1/2 plot, (20 x 15’), for their first season. Applications go out to all old and new gardeners in early March and are due at the end of March. Once your application has been accepted all gardeners are required to become members of the farm plus pay a $15 fee for use of a garden plot.  We require all gardens to be maintained using organic approved growing methods; no synthetic fertilizers or chemicals are allowed.
