Market Garden

The farm’s 1.5 acre market garden was created in 2021 to provide a space for learning, gathering and growing a diversity of vegetables, herbs, flowers and fruits. We grow all of our plants from seed in our heated 20’x60’ greenhouse. We use no synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers on the property and use compost to fertilize our beds that is made right here on the property from our animal bedding and organic waste.

Garden Beds

Our permanent, low-tillage garden bed system means that we disturb the soil as little as possible, encouraging healthier soil biology, reducing weed pressure and building soil fertility more quickly than comparable row crop systems. By leaving the soil structure relatively undisturbed, weed seeds are not brought to the surface where they can germinate. Instead we cover the soil with a thin layer of weed-free compost which provides a mulch barrier, locking in soil moisture. This allows our plants the opportunity to have a healthy head start before any weed seeds can germinate. Out-competing weeds is important to reduce competition for essential nutrients located in the soil, as well as for moisture and sunlight.

High Tunnel

Heat-loving crops thrive under the added protection and heat of plastic covering in our high tunnel, while watering directly into their roots, through drip irrigation, promotes even growth and prevents fungal disease. The tunnel also protects against swings in soil moisture – like a sudden rain storm after a few very dry days – which can mean that plants uptake too much water at once, causing fruit to crack, because it's bursting with water!

What We Grow

During the growing season, we have a wide variety of our own produce for our farm store, including tasty greens like bok choy, kale, chard, lettuce, spinach, and arugula… as well as lots of summer favorites including eggplant, heirloom, and cherry tomatoes, squash, peppers, and more. We also offer seedlings for sale in the Store for gardeners to grow at home. And when our own produce is in short supply, we happily partner with other local farms and purchase organic produce to keep our shelves bountiful.
